设计目的:
Landmarks, towers, stones, flags are always defining your position. Here I am. PILON
is a pilot and a pylon; a future orientation-system for pedestrians in historical centers.
PILON hits the point: at distance it is just a slim but obvious sign, which do not
obstruct the view (imagine the high density of monuments in a city like Dresden). At
short sight the floor becomes a map and the pylon points your position like a pin.
The system is subdivided into 3 levels: main information, directory and destination
pylon. The main information pylons/maps are installed at the main traffic
intersections, whereelse the directory-pylons/maps are spread like a flock within the
areas of the main informations at significant places. The main information pylon
accommodates up to 3 electronic navigation screens like a PDA. The information
about the city, the events, hotelbookings, etc will be electronically updated on
remote every day or week. The system could be financially supported through on-
line advertising presented by local shops, restaurants, etc. With a special surround-
option - based on Quicktime VR - you can watch virtually round the city by moving
yourself and the pylon like a periscope: Not only for the present, you can also switch
to surrounds of the past.
